In addition to counseling, Westminster Counseling Center offers its expertise to congregations and groups in the form of seminars and workshops.
Following are some topics that may fit into your current educational program or as a special presentation. The counselors address these subjects in one-time presentations, as group discussions and/or as a series over a few weeks, usually on Sunday mornings or weekday evenings. We are able to lead and facilitate small group discussions on a variety of topics. We are open to working with your needs and ideas!
Mental Health
- Depression: causes, symptoms, treatment, medications, effects on self and others
- Anger management: understanding and controlling anger
- Stress and anxiety: understanding and treatment
- Grief and loss: support and understanding for the course of grief
- The Enneagram: how to use it to better understand one's self and personality
Relationships
- Pre-marital counseling: three or more sessions using theĀ PREPARE-ENRICH inventory
- Couple communication: hearing, understanding and responding
- Relationship loss: support for the divorced or separated
- Parenting adolescents: understanding, communicating and co-existing
- Marriage: what makes a good marriage
- Family systems: why families are the way they are and how they can change
- Healthy boundaries: when and how boundaries serve us at work and in the family
- Dealing with difficult people: what to do and how to act/interact
- Addiction: understanding, treating, living with an addict (drugs, alcohol, porn...)
Human Development
- Life review groups for seniors: could be a supportive, sharing group
- Biological basis of sexual orientation: information and discussion
- Talking to kids about sex: when, what and how
- Confirmation class discussion groups: communication, sex, peer pressure, etc.
Theology and Spirituality
- Forgiveness: what it means, how it works, how it feels
- Mindfulness: what it is and how to nurture it
- Spirituality and aging: discussion and group sharing
- Sexual orientation: discussion about our interpretations of scripture
